Minor Upgrade: Version 1.3.3.0

Release Date: 10-16-08

This version corrects a problem found while importing files with the import wizard. The error occurred in the wizard when importing a list of comma delimited points with a position format of hemiDegrees,Decimal Minutes (2 of 2). The problem was that the points were imported into the main grid with Latitude and Longitude = 0.

The problem has been fixed in Version 1.3.3.0

Installing DeLorme GPS PostPro

The installation did not go smoothly. I noted the following:

  • I initially installed the PostPro program before i had installed the EarthMate setup disk. This caused a number of file-overwrite messages, and failure to run once installed. Subsequently, i uninstalled PostPro, installed the EarthMate setup disk, and then PostPro. This worked considerably better.

    Minor Upgrade: Version 1.3.2

Revises the way that project files are created. Version 1.0 to 1.3.1 wrote project files in binary format. There was a conflict of version numbers when the project file from earler versions were used, which made them unusable.

This fix will make the project files “bullet proof” for future versions. Unfourtunatley, for versions 1.0 to 1.3.1 if you may be unable to use stored project files. IF this is the case, please contact me and i can help translate them for you.

    Known Issues

    9-18-08 Program Crash

    if these steps are followedi
    get points from GPS
    export points to .dxf file
    open .dxf in AutoCAD
Leave the .dxf file open in AutoCAD
Go back to GPS2CAD, and re-export the points to the same .dxf file
    GPS2CAD crashes

Comments - This appears to be an error internal to Autocad or the .DXF tool used. I am unable to trap the error and proved a message

Work around - Always close the .dxf file drawing being shown in AutoCAD before re-exporting to the same file. - overwriting to an existing file is ok, but not if the file is being used by AutoCAD

    Adds New features

    • Import/Export module - an import / export capabilities now lets you import files from Garmin Mapsource and Magellan Mapsend. There is also an import wizard to take care of other file formats.Import old project files - there is now a feature that lets you import project files from earlier versions of GPS2CAD (ver. 3.x). This will save a great deal of time and let you continue to use your earlier point data.Export formats - you can now export your GPS data in a variety of formats. The most requested of these is .dxf files. Exporting with .dxf allows you to use CAD programs other than AutoCAD. You can, for example, send your data into AutoCAD LT., TurboCad, and any other program  that uses .dxf files.Other export formats include Microsoft Excel and text files (comma and tab delimited).

Help Videos - There is also a new help video on “Using Old Project Files” available here.  More videos are planned to go with the new import/export capabilites. Of course don’t forget the complete library of help videos on the website.

    GPS2CAD-08 Now Exports .DXF Files

AMC, Inc. has just updated GPS2CAD-08, a powerful Windows application that enables users to bridge the gap between your GPS unit and AutoCAD. We are pleased to announce that Version 1.3 is now available. This new version adds some important capabilities to the program:

    Import/Export capabilities.
With this new version, the user can now
    •    Import project files from earlier versions of GPS2CAD (version 3.x) and use their point data in the new GPS2CAD-08
    •    Import data files exported from Garmin Mapsource and Magellan Mapsend
    •    Import data from other text sources using an import wizard
    •    Export data to comma and tab delimited text files
    •    Export data to Excel spreadsheets
    •    Export data to .DXF files. This is an important feature because it allows the use of the data in programs other than AutoCAD. Most popular among these would be AutoCAD LT, TurnboCAD, IntelliCAD, and any others that will import a .DXF file
